Johannes Kaiser

Dr. Johannes Kaiser begynte å jobbe som seniorforsker ved NILUs avdeling for atmosfære og klima i 2023. Han har over 25 års erfaring med satellittbasert fjernmåling av branner og atmosfærisk sammensetning, i tillegg til dataassimilering, inversjon og klimaovervåking.

Kaiser har vært hovedutvikler av Global Fire Assimilation System (GFAS) for Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) i perioden 2007–2019 og fra 2022 og til i dag. I løpet av karrieren har han også bygget opp en forskningsgruppe for brannutslipp ved Max Planck-instituttet for kjemi (MPIC) i Mainz, Tyskland. Han ledet de operative aktivitetene til EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF) for den tyske nasjonale værtjenesten (DWD), og drev det vitenskapelige konsulentfirmaet «SatFire Kaiser».

Han grunnla Interdisciplinary Biomass Burning Activity (IBBI) for IGAC, WMO og iLEAPS i 2012, og er for tiden medlem av den vitenskapelige styringskomiteen for IGAC Global Emissions Initiative (GEIA). Han har også jobbet for ECMWF, King’s College London og universitetene i Zürich og Bremen.

Kaiser har publisert mer enn 100 fagfellevurderte artikler med en h-index på 45 i Scopus. Han har en doktorgrad i atmosfærisk fysikk og fjernmåling fra Universitetet i Bremen og en mastergrad i astrofysikk fra Det tekniske universitetet i Berlin.
