Målinger og beregninger av luftforurensning i Øvre Årdal. 2. Spredning ved normal drift. NILU OR
NILU ¿ Norsk institutt for luftforskning har på oppdrag fra Norsk Hydro ASA utført spredningsberegninger for utslipp til luft av SO2, fluorid, svevestøv og tungmetaller fra aluminiumverket i Øvre Årdal. Beregningene ble kjørt for et referanseår (2010) med vanlige utslippsforhold. Grenseverdier og luftkvalitetskriterier er overholdt for alle komponenter.
Maksimum timemiddelkonsentrasjon i modellområdet er 200 µg/m3 (EU grenseverdi 350 µg/m3), høyeste årsmiddelet er 8 µg/m3 (EU grenseverdi 20 µg/m3).
Årsmiddelkonsentrasjoner for svevestøv, gassformig fluorid og de fleste tungmetaller er langt under grense- og målsettingsverdiene, med unntak av nikkel dets årsmiddelkonsentrasjon bare er litt lavere enn målsettingsverdien.

Målinger av meteorologi og luftkvalitet i Sauda april - september 2011. NILU OR
NILU har målt døgnmidlet meteorologi og luftkvalitet i Sauda kommune i perioden 01.04.-31.08.2011. I tillegg er det foretatt filteranalyser for innhold av metaller.

Indoor air quality study for the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. NILU OR
NILU has been asked by the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi to carry out an indoor air quality(IAQ) study. The results have shown that there is a big variation in the temperatures ( ¿10 C) between the monitored locations in the office. Data analysis from employees survey about indoor air have shown that employees do not feel comfortable with the temperature conditions. In addition mould growth was detected in Ambassador¿s office.
CO2 concentration exceeded the acceptable limit in two locations, because the ventilation system is not capable to provide sufficient amount of fresh air to the number of occupants. The conclusion was that the main problem was related to the unbalanced ventilation system creating improper air circulation leading to high CO2 concentrations and large differences in temperatures.

Environmental Management Report 2011. NILU OR
One of NILU's main goals is to study the impact of pollution. It is thus very important for the institute to have control of the impact the institute¿s own activities may have on the environment and to reduce the impact as far as possible.
NILU has for many years been working to reduce the impact. In order to take this one step further, it was decided that the institute should restructure the work according to a relevant environmental standard and to seek certification according to the same standard.
The chosen standard is ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental management systems¿Requirements with guidance for use) and NILU achieved certification according to this standard in October 2010.
